Our class nickname is "Beckum's Butterflies"!  First graders grow and change so much during the school year - much like caterpillars go through their metamorphosis to become butterflies.  We'll study butterflies, read lots of books with butterflies in them, and in the spring we'll have our own real-live caterpillars who will transform into butterflies (we'll be able to watch the entire life cycle in our classroom).
